  • Professor Ning Wang obtained his BSc (1985) and PhD (1990) degrees in materials physics from the University of Science and Technology, Beijing.
  • In 1989, he received an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship and worked in the Institute for Metal Physics, Goettingen University and the Fritz-Haber-Institute of the Max-Planck Society, Berlin, Germany.
  • In 1993, he joined the Physics Department of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. During 1997-2000 he worked in the Department of Applied Physics and Materials Science, the City University of Hong Kong.
  • He was Director of Materials Characterization and Preparation Facility (2013-2019).
  • He initiated and established the Nano Science and Engineering Platform; the Super-resolution Electron Microscopy Platform; and the HKUST-Raith Joint Nanotechnology Laboratory at HKUST.
  • Professor Wang has authored/co-authored over 300 peer-reviewed research papers in reputed international journals (including Nature, Science, Phys. Rev. Lett., etc.), 40 conference papers, 3 book chapters and 6 US patents. The total citation times of his papers: >27,000 with h-index = 85.
  • He received Chien-Shiung Wu Physics Award (吴健雄物理獎), State Natural Science Award and Achievement in Asia Award.

Research 

  • Since 1986, Dr. Wang has devoted himself to fundamental research in materials physics, particularly 1D and 2D nanomaterials fabrication and property characterization in the past decade. His current research interests cover the areas of 2D materials growth, device fabrication, electronic transport and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy techniques.
